Добавлен 29 мар 2015
The Overhead Athletic Institute is the internet's first medically managed performance enhancement and injury prevention program for overhead athletes. Overhead Athletics was created by Ed Martel orthopedic physical therapy specialist and former professional pitcher with the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers and Dr. Max Wardell DPT, CSCS, CAFS. This channel was designed to help overhead athletes maximize their kinematic sequence, throw as hard and as efficiently as they can, and avoid injury.

Scroll on your phone all day then do skull crushers then play sport = tricep tendonitits.
Where can I buy one of those red balls? Have you got any links for them? Much appreciated!
Nope
Best I ever saw...
Would you recommend learning his piston squat back leg style of pitching for a complete beginner?
I remember ESPN did a story in the 90s how Craig Biggio had creatine in his locker and people were freaking out. Really? Creatine? If you can buy something at GNC then I wouldn't put it in the same category as injecting yourself with steroids
This guy should be an Elite pitcher 106 is crazy fast and still in the game, Every one should know Him
I loved the technique at the end 👏 Thank you!
Get whatever chit is in your mouth out first before you start talking, you're not 3 anymore.
That’s why you just use power cleans. They’re simple enough, require less flexibility than a full clean and have good power transfer with triple extension.
The concern is the degree of loading at the elbow in addition to the shoulder and wrist mobility required which is a concern for most athletes. Regardless the literature is fairly clear that power is task specific and therefore its transference to throwing is considerably low.
@@OverheadAthletics I will agree with mobility concerns in elbow/wrist/shoulder Mobility should be addressed first.
I got this issue from having very weak rotator cuff muscle + golfers elbow and way to many barbell rows/ front lever calesthenics. My rotator and golfers elbow issues are almost completely gone but I still have a bit of impingement on the back of my elbow. Thanks for the videos nowhere else was I able to find help with this
I have videos on posterior elbow impingement too if you haven’t seen those!
His mechanics are what keeps him throwing hard. He uses all the momentum he can
Please take the gum or candy in your mouth out. I can’t concentrate on the exercises because of the slurping 🙄
How often should you do these exercises
2-4 days per week
This was freakin awsome. Thanks so much for uploading these. The 2nd workout was probably the most affective as most of my pain comes from that max wind up when you torque your shoulders for the actual throw.
My son is getting ucl repair with internal brace. You said 8 months recovery. Doc said 5/6. Do kids generally heal faster with this procedure? He will be 16. Thx
Bout to have this done
Best of luck!
@@OverheadAthletics Thanks 👍
All knee bending for me hurts really bad
White ppl always trying to break shyt down 😂. Some things aren’t able to be duplicated my guy
Like Ohtani?
When we abduct our arm at 90 degrees abductions aren't we in 90 degrees of internal rotation too already? So shouldn't his starting position be 90 degrees of IR?
No, 90 degrees of IR would be if his arm was horizontal. If the forearm is vertical that is 0 degrees.
What is normal IR/ER at 45 degrees of shoulder abduction? And if we lift our arm naturally there withiut rotating anything, what rotation are we in is that zero degrees?
If you’re at 0 degrees and you lift your arm without internally or externally rotating you’re still at 0 degrees
What could cause tightness of the pronator muscle? Over pronation?
Numerous things could cause this. Typically it’s the result of poor lever arm, positioning as you move through external rotation/lay back.
Thanks. You nailed it as he was having late arm action causing his elbow to push ahead and have late lay back in his arm. Something around those lines
3 for 3, BJJ injury
What does ICS mean? It's supposed to limit internal rotation.
Also what is normal IR and ER at 45 degrees of abduction?
If you are taking time off from throwing to see if the condition improves, can you continue hitting?
Typically yes
Hello i usually have cramps at my lower tricep when i lift my hand to a certain position. Do you think that this might help?
How is it different from acupuncture?
Different methodology and applications
@@OverheadAthletics I think it doesn't follow meridians
great video! thanks for putting it together.
Hey I am a fast bowler ( Cricket) , my elbow only hurts during the Delivering of ball when i release the ball, its right behind the elbow bone tip, i was just confused , didn't know what it was, but thanks to you sir Please can you make a video on fast bowlers elbow impingement...please sir.... Andd will definitely try to include these in my rehab...thank you so much sir...
This was more painful to watch than my injury. 😮
This is my second day after cast removal. Lots of pain. I am following your instructions. Thank you
Could you elaborate on the TJ shelf life being 1.5 to 2 years? Thanks
The avg reinjury after return to competition from Tommy John is 1.5-2yrs. This could be much higher if the root causes of the initial injury were properly addressed.
@@OverheadAthleticsThanks 👍
To help with load would you then say during leg kick have the player crossover with their leg kick versus straight up and down? I believe this would help, but then when teaching younger athletes to do this it becomes a little tougher as I feel this then throws their balance off and then changes the rest of the throw at various stages. So second question how would you teach younger kids to load there back hip/leg more while maintaining their balance on that leg?
Regarding question 1, it helps for some athletes while it causes other athletes to then open up early. Regarding question 2, I’ll have to make a video to demonstrate
Thanks that was good
👍🏻
Hey do you have any other videos on Hip Labrum/Cam surgery post op rehab?
I have others on my channel on FAI/impingement which definitely relate
@@OverheadAthletics Awesome. Your content is incredible.
Ryan was a much more cerebral player than some people realize.
Definitely
It has been more than half a year, I am facing a problem,, whenever I hang my right hand there is pain in the elbow and the pain is behind the elbow, please suggest any solution to this and iWhat type of elbow pain is it?
Poor dry needling skills. Couldnt properly illicit the local twitch response he had to resort to needle twirling and trickery.
After my first injury to my left shoulder in 2014, which resulted in a Bankart lesion, I underwent surgery and spent over 12 months recovering. It was a really challenging period. Now, I've sustained a new injury, a SLAP tear, and I am planning to try a conservative approach to healing. I will rest for the next four weeks and then begin rehabilitation.
Tf is going in I don't see any benifits to it tbh
I had 3 pops in my elbow while getting hit with a belly down armbar during jiu jitsu. I continued training that day because I had no pain. The following day it was stiff and sore. Now I have medial pain along my elbow/upper forearm with pain upon full extension or flexion of my arm or while palpating the area (3 days after injury). Sound like a UCL sprain to you? Im worried about a complete tear but literally the only symptoms I have are what I stated and I've had no bruising or swelling. Needless to say I will not return to jiu jitsu until the pain resolves. Thanks for the video!
Similar boat for me! Happened while fighting for grip during BJJ and it popped on my inner elbow (Tranverse UCL area). Now I can’t even bench press the bar without pain! Let me know how yours ends up 😭
@capsaiyan so I'd say I'm at 90 percent now in terms of pain 5 weeks later. I can lift just fine, and roll just fine but while rolling if the arm gets isolated I'm pretty much tapping immediately.
@@callsignzuluindiafour7676awesome, thanks for the reply and best of luck.
Videos keep getting better and better. You are killing it Max!
Thanks brotha! Appreciate it! Lucas Hansen is the man behind the scenes bringing it up a notch!
1st test I have pain
I have been a very heavy lifter since I was 15, now 36 (including arm workouts), and have constantly had tendinitis/Tendinosis on and off on 1 arm since I started training. I always thought it was tendinitis, but now that I'm aware of Tendinosis, I believe it's that. I have started strengthening the tendon with resistance bands 5-6 sets a day and see an improvement as well as cross-friction massage at home. Do you have any other tips apart from what you say in the video? I thought of going for professional massage 2-3 times a week on my tricep, breaking up all that scar tissue and assisting in the tendon healing properly, or would the home cross-friction massage suffice? My physio tell me most of her patient's tendons on the triceps are thin and not very noticeable but mine are extremely prominent, defined and very developed,. She says I have the most prominent tendons she's felt and would be an excellent candidate for uni students to feel unequivocally what a tendon feels like :) Great video BTW!
You can massage your triceps at home too with a lacrosse ball. It hurts, but it works well for loosening up the muscle. I would also recommend blood flow work for the triceps and elbow. A few sets of light weight and very high rep push down sets of 50-100 reps.
What causes kids to cut there 4 seam
Thanks for no alternative 👍🏻 Very helpful 👍🏻
Love the stuff man
Wait uh, I think I am messed up in the tricep the one test I totally hit on bad what does that mean any help please?
Yuh I was longtossing with my friend who plays college baseball and I hadn’t thrown for a while my elbow popped on a deep ball
This is BS just do Zercher squats and RDL'S and I'm done these exercises you show here are for shaping muscles and won't build anything stop lying isolations aren't needed unless you want to be a bodybuilder
This was so good! I'm hoping to have my surgery soon, thanks from UK
